G11 Plastic Machining

G11 Material

G11 epoxy resin is an ideal material for parts and components that require extremely high strength, high dimensional stability, and high creep resistance across a wide temperature range. Sometimes referred to as G11-FR5 or G11 laminate, this glass epoxy material is commonly used for terminal boards, electric rotor insulation, electronic test equipment, and high humidity applications. Although the material can be difficult to machine with accuracy, Upland Fab has the experience and expertise to fabricate high precision laminate parts from G11 plastic.

G11 Epoxy Resin

Like other phenolic laminates, G11 epoxy resin is produced by applying high heat and pressure to multiple stacked layers of specialty materials, which have been impregnated with synthetic thermoset resins. The heat and pressure polymerizes those disparate layers into a single, laminated material.

G11-FR5 is extremely strong and stiff, with excellent electrical properties and a very low coefficient of thermal expansion. It exhibits very low moisture absorption and is flame retardant. These and other factors make G11 plastic ideal for electronic and electromechanical components and high-humidity environments.

Precision Machined G11-FR5 Parts

Because of its unique makeup, accurately machining G11-FR5 presents a challenge. Upland Fab utilizes multi-axis CNC machining and special tools to produce high precision, tight tolerance G11 plastic parts. CNC technology ensures perfect repeatability from the first piece to the last, and enables us to fabricate parts with minimal time devoted to handling and fixturing. In many cases, even parts with very intricate geometries can be completed in a single operation for fast and efficient service.

Through DPD/MBD processes (Digital Product Definition/Model-Based Definition), we can work directly from your CAD models or other digital design files. This improves accuracy and helps us eliminate manufacturing errors, resulting in higher quality parts at lower costs.

G11 Machining to Match Your Industry Requirements

G11 epoxy resin offers high strength and great dimensional stability to component production across industries:

  • Medical: Due to its chemical resistance and low moisture absorption, G11 is an excellent choice for manufacturing medical devices, diagnostic equipment, and more.
  • Defense: G11 meets and exceeds stringent Mil-Spec standards, depending on your planned application. It is used for manufacturing rocket cases, components used in aerospace or marine conditions, and more.
  • Semiconductor & Electronics: G11 materials offer excellent dielectric strength, making it a good choice for electronic or semiconductor assemblies. It is often used to manufacture circuit board holders, terminal boards, and other electrical equipment.
  • Aerospace: The aerospace industry has no room for error as failure of the smallest part can have catastrophic consequences. G11 provides high impact strength and good dimensional stability, making it a popular choice for aircraft, antenna insulators, and many other aerospace components.
